We'll have a professional seamstress and flag-maker here facilitating and tons of fabrics, symbols, designs & decorations for you to create your own flag that represents *you* and your identity.

Seeking Discomfort: Artistic Strategies in a Dystopian World

Opening Reception Friday, July 15th 5pm - 8pm

Seeking Discomfort is an exhibition that leans into active discomfort by utilizing artistic strategies of bodily and social discomfort that act out the anxiety, fear, dread, and disconnect of our current global moment. The works that will be included create a space for processing, healing, and perhaps even a hope that exists in challenging a dysfunctional society. Featured artists to be announced.

As we transition back into the dark of Autumn and Winter, we draw our attention to the artists most comfortable with staring straight into it. This season's show will be guided by those whose focus on death, ritual and even violence serves as a meditation on the things we try to ignore; things worth facing if we are to feel more alive.

GLEAN Portland Exhibition

The GLEAN Program invites artists to push the boundaries of material exploration. With a stipend to support their practice and seemingly endless materials to work with, artists are challenged to expand their existing studio practice by making work from the materials gleaned from the Metro Central Transfer Station (aka, “the dump”). One of the goals of this program is to introduce established and emerging artists to the wealth of materials available to them through the GLEAN. With the ultimate goal to reduce waste and raise awareness with this program, no prior experience with discarded materials is required. (from GLEAN website)
