Tree Emergency Response Team
The Tree Emergency Response Team has been busy in 2021, hosting a series of three monthly events since January. While some of the trees that we have worked to protect have been felled, we have also had some fantastic successes.
Our March campaign at the Southwest Community Park in Gresham directly contributed to the protection of over 300 mature Douglas Fir trees! We have also hosted events in Moreland Woods, Sellwood, Alberta, and many other neighborhoods throughout Portland.
Our most recent July event was a huge campaign downtown to protect several mature trees in South Park Blocks. Nearly twenty incredible artists joined our efforts in the park blocks to paint, petition, and raise awareness about saving these historic trees from the city’s proposed “Green Loop” & tree succession plan. Our painting event coincided with an historic heat wave which saw Portland’s highest ever temperatures being recorded; a prescient warning of what we can expect with the continued destruction of our natural resources and urban canopy.

On exhibit are the last paintings of these trees. Let this be a reminder that every living thing can be important in our lives and that we can always work harder.
Come and celebrate the contribution these trees made to their communities in their lifetime.
