Next Thursday, January 21 the Elisabeth Jones Art Center will kick off our exciting virtual Global Arts Festival series! Our premiere event will feature the artwork of Arif Bahaduri and exceptional performances that honor and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Afghanistan! We will begin the evening with a virtual cooking class led by Chef Halima Bahman who will teach us how to prepare a tasty and authentic Afghan dumpling called "Ashak." We will then stream a live artist interview between Arif and our Executive Director John Teply. Afterwards we will "travel" to Kabul, Afghanistan and take a virtual tour of the galleries at the Afghan Cultural House, led by Deputy Director Yousuf Esar. http://www.ach.af/ Finally, we will end the evening with a fantastic LIVE production of a traditional "Attan" dance by a troupe of performers on the ground in Afghanistan. On February 25, 2021 we are thrilled to unveil the murals and artwork of a collective of artists called Aravani Art Project, from Bangalore, Karnataka. They will talk about their work and themes on a live Zoom interview with our Executive Director John Teply. We will start the evening with a virtual cooking class led by Chef Deepak Kaul of Bhuna Restaurant, which specializes in Indian Soul Food. On January 28, 2021 we will be exhibiting a mural and artworks by Nigerian-born artist O. Yemi Tubi, followed by a live interview with our director John Teply. We have quite a lineup of exciting events to celebrate Nigerian and Yoruba cultural heritages as well! On February 11, 2021 we will be unveiling a mural and artworks created by Japanese artist Kaoru Shibuta, followed by a live interview between he and our director John Teply. And we have a very exciting schedule of events shaping up for that night to celebrate Japanese cultural heritage! We will kick it off with a virtual cooking class led by Chef David Edwards of NanBan PDX.
