We are searching for international artists to participate in a collaborative exchange, a visual conversation, a global painting project!
Artists originating from and living outside of the United States will be considered.
The International Mural by Mail Network offers the opportunity for networking and communicating visually with other artists on a global scale.
We are initiating a series of large-scale murals, created jointly by two artists of diverse cultural background and artistic persuasion, in a collaborative exchange conducted entirely by mail. On one end, one mural will be completed by the participating international artist, and on the other end, the other will be completed by a local Portland artist. Two murals will be created. With this announcement, we are seeking international counterparts for this project.
Protocol In a visual conversation between citizens of different countries, a theme of mutual interest will be explored. The theme is open and broad, and artists have all the control. Possibilities include the role of beauty and art in our lives, family life, history, dreams of the citizen, environmental issues, political ideologies, workers’ rights, etc. Current headlines can always be a ready point of departure.
Mural cartoons (full scale mock-up drawings) will be mailed between collaborating artists. Each will begin sketching images on a blank cartoon sheet to be mailed to their partner, who in turn will respond by adding elements of their own. This exchange will continue until an artist determines a composition complete, and thereupon creates a painting based on the cartoon that has been exchanged.
By design our proposition is intended to be adapted and interpreted by participating artists.
